Join us for the fall ICCA Culinary Immersion Toronto to explore our vibrant and growing neighbor to the north. With over 140 languages spoken and adding 100,000 people every year, Toronto is Canada’s largest city and was named the world’s most diverse city by BBC. This intense educational tour and tasting is from August 14th – 16th!
We’ll take 15 members and 5 sponsors through the city’s many ethnic neighborhoods, including the largest Chinatown outside of San Francisco. Head to Portugal Village for the city’s best bakeries and the must-try pastel de nata, or egg custard topped with cinnamon and powdered sugar fresh out of the oven! Little India was once home to Toronto’s entire South Asian population, but now boasts the most colorful street vendors and fruit markets in the city. Greektown has long been known for its skewers of meat, but gradually developed into Toronto’s most vegan- and eco-friendly neighborhood.
The popular area known as Kensington Market has long been a haven for new immigrants making it one of the more diverse districts in Toronto. Divided into plots by the Irish, Brits and Scots in the 1880s, the area saw a rise in eastern European Jewish immigrants in the early 20th century. It quickly became known as the Jewish Market, and even though the name has changed, Kensington Market has been able to curb gentrification and is still home to the most eclectic array of restaurants in the city, including tacos & tortas, pies, gluten-free buckwheat crepes and empanadas.
With 30+ locations, we’ll stop by the upscale Canadian chain Cactus Club Cafe as we tour Toronto this fall! Led by Chef Rob Feenie, the first Canadian to win on Iron Chef America when he beat Morimoto, the Cactus Club Cafe’s extensive Test Kitchen program drives the modern Canadian menu.
Once you arrive to the host hotel, Hyatt Regency, everything is paid for by the association and our generous sponsors. To RSVP, call (407) 539-1459 or email email@example.com. If you arrive early enough on August 13th, there will be a casual dinner near the hotel as an unofficial kickoff to the Immersion before we get started on Wednesday!
