The second restaurant by husband and wife team Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi, Joule is considered their more "mature" restaurant featuring Korean cuisine. The restaurant mainly focuses on beef cuts and shareable sides. The restaurant moved locations in 2012 into the same building with The Whale Wins in the Freemont neighborhood of Seattle.
As beef is the main focus of the restaurant we chose three of the beef dishes. The first being a rift on Beef Tartare. The second dish was a Flat Iron steak followed by the Short Rib Steak. The steaks are served thinly sliced with a variety of dipping sauces.
For sides we chose the smoked tofu which was excellent; very unique flavor. The white kimchi was very spicey but was a perfect accompaniment with the savory beef dishes. The black cod was cooked perfectly and the escolar was very fresh and tender.
The atmosphere is dark and a little cold and rigid, but, as we were progressive dining this was a great spot for shared plates and a bottle or two of wine after our stop next door at The Whale Wins.
